Why Negatives?
Real-world uses: temperatures below zero, altitude below sea level, debts. Extend number line to left of zero.

Adding & Subtracting Integers
Same signs → add magnitudes, keep sign. Different signs → subtract, keep sign of larger. Subtracting = adding opposite.

Multiplying Integers
Same-sign product positive; different-sign negative.

Ordering
Numbers increase to the right: $-5 < -2 < 0 < 3$ .
