Playing with Constructions

Geometric constructions using a compass and a ruler.

Lessons
4 concepts
  1. 1
    Basic Tools
Compass has two arms — one with point, one with pencil. Set spread to draw arcs of that radius.
  2. 2
    Copying a Segment
Place compass on AA, pencil on BB. Move to A′A', arc gives B′B' with A′B′=ABA'B' = AB.
  3. 3
    Perpendicular Bisector
From AA and BB: draw arcs above and below (same radius). Join the intersections — cuts ABAB perpendicularly at midpoint.
  4. 4
    Angle Copying
Arc across the original angle. Repeat arc on new line. Measure chord between arc-arm points; transfer. Join to form copy.
