Applications of Derivatives

Rate of change, tangents and normals, increasing/decreasing functions, maxima and minima.

Lessons
4 concepts
  1. 1
    Rate of Change
dSdt\dfrac{dS}{dt} interprets as the rate of change of SS w.r.t. tt.
  2. 2
    Tangent & Normal
Slope of tangent at (x0,y0)(x_0, y_0) is f′(x0)f'(x_0); slope of normal is −1/f′(x0)-1/f'(x_0).
  3. 3
    Increasing / Decreasing
    f′>0f' > 0 on (a,b)(a, b) ⇒\Rightarrow ff is increasing there.
  4. 4
    Maxima & Minima
    Critical points where f′=0f' = 0 or f′f' undefined; classify using f′′f''.
