Detailed theory

0.1 = 1/10

0.01 = 1/100

0.001 = 1/1000

. Every decimal is a fraction with a power of

in the denominator.

0.5 = \dfrac{1}{2},\; 0.25 = \dfrac{1}{4}

To subtract decimals, align the decimal points.
